Description

Consolidates the remaining Kimi K3 work from #19990 and #19991 into one main-based change, following the model-owned layout from #19977. Already-merged K3 runtime work from #19989 and #20576 is not replayed; current-main runtime/cache/graph/serving changes are retained.

  • Both MXFP4/SM100/TP16 attention targets live under modeling_v2/models/kimi_k3_vl: routed experts TP4×EP4, or explicitly selected TP16×EP1. Text-only checkpoint loading and existing target safety/shape/dtype gates remain intact.
  • Family-shared OpWrappers and CuTe DSL kernels live once under the K3 family's ops/ and kernels/. Route-only SSM/MoE wrappers and engines stay target-local. Executable CELLS, ARCHS, references and validation contracts are preserved. Claims discovery includes family-level entries while precise import isolation rejects other families and sibling targets.
  • K3-specific native specialization and registration live in models/kimi_k3_vl/csrc/, integrated through existing CMake OBJECT libraries and target_sources. Stock MNNVL kernels, allreduce/attention-residual native schemas, distributed workspace/checkpoint code and shared fake registrations are unchanged. Only the required native-library wiring, build-input staleness root and test registrations remain outside modeling_v2.
  • The K3 MNNVL adapter retains configurable one-shot thresholds and uses the existing mapping-owned workspace/lifetime infrastructure. Above the threshold it calls the unchanged stock two-shot launcher. Generic attention-residual and persistent fallback kernels are also reused, not copied.

PDL ownership and semantics

Stock allreduce already supports PDL. Its one-shot trigger follows deterministic rank reduction and precedes the optional epilogue. K3's existing decode chain additionally needs a trigger immediately after the entry dependency wait, before the Lamport exchange; enabling the stock launch flag does not move that release point. The model-owned one-shot specialization preserves that behavior with early_trigger=False by default. K3 opts in per selected module, without changing shared kernels or defaults. Early release permits a dependent launch; it is not output readiness or guaranteed overlap, and dependent waits remain mandatory.

Runtime compatibility follow-up

  • Accept the current KDA verifier's optional output-format permission while preserving the existing dense output contract.
  • Read the canonical DeviceCopyBuffer.tensor slot map in both K3 speculative workers, including the first-drafter input path.
  • Compact non-unit-stride replay-count views before the flat-vector accept kernel and copy updates back to their original aliased storage. The CUDA kernel body and compact-input path are unchanged.
  • Keep host regressions in the existing CPU-listed decode-step suite and add padded-state, neighbor-preservation and CUDA-graph replay coverage to the existing SM100 GPU test suite.

Validation

Retained source/build-smoke coverage

Earlier source-matched OCI CPU verification passed on the frozen current-main candidate: 240 Python files compiled; all 239 ancestry-appropriate C+D source paths accounted for, with 39 already-upstream/ancestry residues excluded. Preservation checks covered 92 relocated behavioral contracts, 34 split-engine bodies, native move/specialization bodies, and unchanged shared owners. Actual-source discovery/import/drift gates and 21 isolation/audit regressions passed, including failing-before/passing-after discovery and threshold controls. The 38 classifier, 12 workspace-boundary, 24 both-target dispatch, and lazy routing scenarios passed. All 16 standalone MLA launch-helper tests and applicable pinned formatting/lint checks passed.

All four model-owned CUDA translation units compile for SM100f with genuine nvcc 13.4.92 and repository-pinned CUTLASS headers. All three C++ bridge syntax checks pass with real PyTorch/MPI/CUDA headers. These are object/syntax results, not full-library link or GPU execution. Meta-schema checks cover seven fusion patterns and two attention ops without claiming native numerical correctness. Test-list AST validation checked 2,037 entries; 201 runtime-computed parameter IDs still require real collection. Actual pre/post CBTS replay falls back safely to baseline CI because CMake/setup integration is required; this is not a modeling_v2-only CI scope.

Latest compatibility and serving checks

  • 86 host-side regression cases passed against the coherent current-main CI runtime with the four changed production files source-bound. Syntax compilation, Ruff checks and Ruff formatting pass for all six changed source/test files.
  • 24 SM100 GPU replay-state cases passed, covering C1/2/4/8, natural/integer/fractional acceptance, eager and captured replay, complete mutable-state agreement and unchanged neighboring packed fields. The original compact-state reference also passes bitwise checks.
  • The source-matched CI package with these Python fixes completed real 16-GB200 DSpark serving and five matched forced-decode repetitions at each concurrency below. These are serving measurements, not a claim that all native numerical, PDL, fabric or accuracy suites pass.

Forced-acceptance serving comparison

Reference: the previously accepted optimized K3 stack (3f54e9d96d), not generic stock. Both arms use the same 16 GB200 GPUs, attention TP16, attention DP off, MoE TP4×EP4, DSpark draft length 7, forced AL6, and 1024-token input/output. Five same-seed primary repetitions per row use reference seeds 1–2 before the candidate and seeds 3–5 after it; extra reference repetitions are not pooled. Values are medians, and changes are ratios of medians.

Concurrency Reference TPOT (ms/token) Candidate TPOT (ms/token) TPOT change Reference output (tok/s) Candidate output (tok/s) Output-throughput change
1 1.013 1.064 +5.0% 800.7 794.9 -0.7%
2 1.709 1.752 +2.5% 880.1 909.5 +3.3%
4 1.933 1.974 +2.1% 1593.6 1648.4 +3.4%
8 2.546 2.582 +1.4% 2535.7 2590.5 +2.2%

TPOT is lower-is-better; whole-run output throughput is higher-is-better and measures a different boundary. This forced-acceptance proxy is not natural-language end-to-end qualification.

Validation limits

Candidate-only unforced results cover 23 of 33 cells at seeds 1–2. The matched natural prefill/combined comparison and the no-speculative TP16×EP1 cases are not complete. Full GSM8K/accuracy, remaining native numerical/rejection/PDL/fabric matrices, and kernel-level slowdown attribution are not claimed. The tests above do not establish a complete current-head CI pass; CI results remain separate checks on this PR.

Mapping

This single replacement supersedes the unmerged functionality of #19990 and #19991; it does not close or merge those PRs automatically. #19977 supplies the current OpWrapper/model-local convention. #19989/#20576 remain upstream prerequisites rather than duplicate implementation changes here.

Dev Engineer Review

The change consolidates Kimi K3’s text-only MXFP4 targets under modeling_v2/models/kimi_k3_vl, with TP16 attention and routed-expert layouts for TP4×EP4 or explicitly selected TP16×EP1. It adds model-family operations, CuTe kernels, native CUDA sources, target dispatch, decode integration, and build registration.

The main review risks are the new SM100 kernel and collective paths, their shape/dtype/workspace checks, and coordination across CUDA graph capture and PDL launches. The author states that early_trigger=False is the default for the model-owned one-shot specialization. Early release allows a dependent launch; it does not indicate output readiness or guarantee overlap. Dependent waits remain required.

The supplied results describe CPU-side checks, four SM100f CUDA object compilations, and three C++ bridge syntax checks. They do not establish full-library linking, GPU execution, numerical or performance results, or checkout-matched package startup. Full shared-library and GPU acceptance testing remains outstanding. Review finding counts and overall review severity are unavailable.

QA Engineer Review

The change adds extensive CPU, CUDA, and multi-GPU tests for routing, model construction, decode kernels, MLA/KDA, drafter paths, MoE, MNNVL collectives, sandwich operations, graph replay, and error handling. It also adds source-level synchronization checks and updates integration test lists. The B200 and CPU test lists include K3 entries; the four-GPU GB200 list includes collective, MoE, and exchange tests. Some changed tests are not directly shown in the returned list search, so CI-list coverage should be checked against the full changed-test inventory.

The test additions provide broad planned coverage, but execution results are not established here. Coverage verdict: needs follow-up, especially for full GPU execution and package/build validation.

Per-File QA Perspective

The supplied change inventory is large. The entries below group files by function; test-list membership is noted where the returned search provides evidence.

Source and configuration files

  • cpp/tensorrt_llm/CMakeLists.txt, cpp/tensorrt_llm/thop/CMakeLists.txt, and setup.py: Build and build-skew checks now include Kimi K3 native sources. Verify that the object library integrates in a full build and that packaged builds use matching source inputs.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/README.md, _router_index.py, and models/kimi_k3_vl/__init__.py: Document and expose the Kimi K3 model family and route. Verify import isolation and router selection.
  • models/kimi_k3_vl/routing.py and both target weights.py files: Add SM100/MXFP4/topology routing and text-only checkpoint loading. Verify supported topology selection, rejection of near-matches, and permitted checkpoint prefixes.
  • models/kimi_k3_vl/csrc/CMakeLists.txt, headers, CUDA sources, and ops/__init__.py/ops/_native.py: Add native attention-residual, MNNVL all-reduce/all-gather, and fake-op support. Verify operator contracts, workspace limits, launch errors, and build/link integration.
  • models/kimi_k3_vl/kernels/**: Add K3 GEMV, embedding, context-KV, drafter, MoE, KDA, MLA, routing, Markov, and speculative-accept kernels and wrappers. Verify each support predicate, shape/dtype rejection, graph-capture warm-up rules, workspace lifecycle, and PDL ordering.
  • models/kimi_k3_vl/ops/**: Add OpWrapper APIs and references for attention, communication, GEMM, MoE, normalization, and SSM operations. Verify wrapper/reference agreement, mutable-buffer behavior, and validation consistency.
  • Both kimi_k3_mxfp4__sm_100__tp16_* target directories, including decode_comm.py, decode_gemv.py, decode_moe.py, target-local kernels/ops, and package initializers: Add the target decode paths and TP16×EP1/TP4×EP4 specialization. Verify dispatch fallbacks, initialization before graph capture, target parity outside marked route-specific differences, and explicit EP1 selection.
  • tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_b200.yml, l0_cpu.yml, and l0_gb200_multi_gpus.yml: Add K3 GPU, CPU, and multi-GPU test entries. The returned search confirms K3 entries in these lists. No changed manual-QA list entry is established.

Test-code files

  • tests/unittest/_torch/kernels/kimi_k3/**: Adds kernel tests for cluster waits, fences, GEMV, embedding, context-KV, drafter attention, MoE, KDA, MLA, Markov, speculative acceptance, collectives, and sandwich paths. The returned search confirms several tests in l0_b200.yml and the collective tests in l0_gb200_multi_gpus.yml; remaining files need an inventory-to-list check.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/modeling_v2/**: Adds operation, catalog, routing, construction, decode, communication-matrix, MoE, normalization, quantization, and SSM tests. The B200 and CPU lists include selected K3 modeling tests; the returned search does not establish CI-list membership for every changed test.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/speculative/hw_agnostic/**: Adds host-side tests for K3 speculative decode, capture views, drafter communication, and draft-row handling. The returned search does not show these test paths in the K3-related CI-list matches.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/moe/test_kimi_k3_situ_moe.py: Extends TP coverage from TP8 to TP16 and checks shard padding. The returned search does not establish this changed test’s CI-list status.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/modeling_v2/comm/_lockstep.py, _k3_sandwich_common.py, and _kda_cells.py/_kda_reference.py: Add shared test fixtures, references, and distributed-test utilities. These support correctness and state checks; verify the consuming matrix tests are selected by CI.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/modeling_v2/comm/_*op_matrix.py and their test_*.py entry points: Add multi-rank collective, decode-communication, MoE, and sandwich certification matrices. The returned search confirms several K3 matrix entries in l0_gb200_multi_gpus.yml; verify all matrix entry points against the changed-test inventory.

ModelingV2 target accuracy QA gates

Both SM100 MXFP4 TP16 targets have full-GSM8K gates in accuracy/modeling_v2/test_kimi_k3_vl.py: MoE TP4×EP4 and explicitly selected TP16×EP1. Each requires the optimized target with modeling_v2="require", checks the engine step contract, and uses the existing K3 accuracy reference. The gates are registered in the multinode QA list for 16 GB200 GPUs in one NVLink domain. The new full-GSM8K QA cases have not yet been executed on that hardware.

Validation of this update: the source-bound CPU claims suite passes all 59 tests. Removing the new gate file reproduces the missing-gate assertion for both K3 targets; restoring it passes the actual source check. Ruff, all applicable commit hooks, and AST validation of 2,051 test-list entries pass. Accuracy thresholds are unchanged.

Merged main through 617ce36de1; the test-list conflict retains both the K3 coverage and upstream vocabulary-parallel coverage.

CPU worker and drafter fixture compatibility

The host-only K3 worker and drafter test helpers bypass their constructors. Initialize the base vocabulary-parallel and FC projection defaults so their gathered-logits and unsplit-projection fallback assertions execute against the current runtime.

Validation with the runtime wheel built by CI #66765: the original two test modules reproduce 22 failures and 118 passes; with the fixture defaults, all 140 tests pass. Repository pre-commit and DCO checks pass. The change is three test-helper initializations; it does not alter inference code.

Main integration compatibility

Merge main's per-family native-library infrastructure while retaining K3's existing stock-library linkage, operator names, fake registration and runtime implementation. Exclude only K3 from the new discovery/ownership contract; other families continue to use the new mechanism. K3 source changes use conservative baseline CBTS selection because these bindings are reached from stock imports. Migrating K3 itself to per-family libraries is deferred to a follow-up.

Validation: 79 source-bound CPU checks passed, including actual CMake configuration covering duplicate-target avoidance and continued discovery of another family, native loader/contracts, packaging and CBTS selection. One installed-family loading check was skipped because the validation runtime predates the new family libraries. All pre-commit/DCO checks passed. The K3 model/kernel/operator implementation tree is unchanged from 235b89ba5e.

CI #66839 on 235b89ba5e passed both builds, both single-GPU jobs and ARM multi-GPU validation. Its remaining x86 multi-GPU failures are four existing transfer-lifecycle MPI-startup timeouts plus their wrapper, classified by the CI agent as unrelated to K3; those tests and waivers are unchanged. The merged head requires fresh CI validation of the combined build.

…IA#19990, NVIDIA#19991)

Combines the remaining unmerged Kimi K3 work from NVIDIA#19990 and NVIDIA#19991 into
a single current-main change following the model-owned layout of NVIDIA#19977.
Already-merged K3 runtime work (NVIDIA#19989, NVIDIA#20576) is not replayed; current
main runtime/cache/graph/serving changes are retained.

Both MXFP4/SM100/TP16 attention targets live under
modeling_v2/models/kimi_k3_vl. Family-shared OpWrappers and CuTe DSL
kernels stay under the family ops/ and kernels/ directories; route-only
SSM/MoE wrappers and engines stay target-local. K3-specific native
specialization and registration live in models/kimi_k3_vl/csrc/ and are
integrated through existing CMake OBJECT libraries and target_sources.
The K3 MNNVL adapter retains configurable one-shot thresholds and reuses
the existing mapping-owned workspace/lifetime infrastructure and the
unchanged stock two-shot launcher above the threshold.

Scope verified on OCI CPU against the frozen current-main candidate:
259 source paths, 240 Python files compiled, 239 ancestry-appropriate
C+D paths accounted for (39 already-upstream residues excluded), 92
relocated behavioral contracts and 34 split-engine bodies preserved,
actual-source discovery/import/drift gates and 21 isolation audits
passed, all 16 standalone launch-helper tests and pinned lint/format
checks passed. Four model-owned CUDA translation units compile for
SM100f with genuine nvcc 13.4.92 and pinned CUTLASS headers; three C++
bridge syntax checks pass with real headers.

Full shared-library link, checkout-matched wheel ABI/package startup,
SM100 numerical/rejection/PDL/graph tests, four-rank GB200 fabric and
sixteen-rank acceptance remain required and are not claimed.

Priority: Normal

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to d398d

The Kimi K3 modeling work adds many new decode kernels and tests. Before merging, declare all mutated workspace tensors on the k3_markov custom op and fix the broken comm-entry import in the all-gather certification launcher. The test-list duplication, weak cross-rank check and missing memory gate are lower-priority cleanups. Full GPU validation, which the author notes is still pending, remains required.

Hi @litaotju — FYI: this PR consolidates the remaining Kimi K3 work from #19990 and #19991 into one current-main change following the #19977 model-owned layout (modeling_v2/models/kimi_k3_vl), with family-shared ops/kernels once and route-only engines target-local. Already-merged #19989/#20576 runtime work is not replayed. Scope: 259 paths (259 files, +82,697/−52). Source-matched OCI CPU checks pass (240 Python compiles, discovery/import/drift gates, 92 relocated contracts, 16 launch-helper tests, pinned lint/format) and the four model-owned CUDA TUs compile for SM100f as objects; three C++ bridge syntax checks pass. Full-library link, checkout-matched wheel ABI/package, SM100 numerical/PDL/graph, 4-rank fabric and 16-rank acceptance remain required and pending (native CI just requested via /bot run). No merge or full native/GPU pass is claimed.

Hi @litaotju — FYI: this PR consolidates the remaining Kimi K3 work from #19990 and #19991 into one current-main change following the #19977 model-owned layout (modeling_v2/models/kimi_k3_vl), with family-shared ops/kernels once and route-only engines target-local. Already-merged #19989/#20576 runtime work is not replayed. Scope: 259 paths (259 files, +82,697/−52). Source-matched OCI CPU checks pass (240 Python compiles, discovery/import/drift gates, 92 relocated contracts, 16 launch-helper tests, pinned lint/format) and the four model-owned CUDA TUs compile for SM100f as objects; three C++ bridge syntax checks pass. Full-library link, checkout-matched wheel ABI/package, SM100 numerical/PDL/graph, 4-rank fabric and 16-rank acceptance remain required and pending (native CI just requested via /bot run). No merge or full native/GPU pass is claimed.

LGTM, approved.

…CI repair (NVIDIA#20893)

Rebases the published K3 consolidation (d398d1a) onto fresh upstream main
4ccdca1 and folds the PR-caused CI repair classes from the upstream
Blossom run on the previous head:

- Native fakes for the K3 ops consolidated in model-owned ops/_native.py,
registered through the standard fake hub with a single function-local
hook line in _register_fake; plain import tensorrt_llm now registers
all five K3 fakes without loading kernels or targets.
- k3_kda_attn / k3_kda_verify contract guards corrected for the pending
buffer contiguity and fp32 dtype requirements; kda_mtp_decode wiring
and pool-layout handling aligned with the K3 manager pools.
- k3_moe_wide cross-build parity check narrowed to the single-slice case
where the <=1-ulp bound is arithmetically provable; multi-slice calls
use the existing certified cross-implementation band. No tolerance
  relaxed, no skip added.
- k3_mla_attn_vb_out CUDA-graph capture path and K3 decode-worker test
  fixture (MambaHybridCacheManagerV2 backing buffer) repaired.
- Routing test merged with upstream (NoTarget union) retaining both
  latest-main and K3 coverage; model-owned K3 kernels remain under
models/kimi_k3_vl with stock shared kernels/schemas/API unchanged.

Scope on the fresh-main tree: 263 source paths vs main; shared stock
files byte-identical to fresh main apart from the approved CMake build
wiring; csrc byte-identical to the published head. OCI CPU qualification
(final-15, job 8198153) 21/21 rows exit 0, INNER_EXIT 0, source-matched.

Full native library link, checkout-matched wheel ABI/package startup,
SM100 numerical/PDL/graph/rearm tests, four-rank GB200 fabric and
sixteen-rank acceptance remain required genuine CI gates and are not
claimed.

Fixes the Release Checks pre-commit isort failure on the published K3
consolidation head (run 40013423249) by wrapping the >80-column
function-local import in tensorrt_llm/_torch/custom_ops/cpp_custom_ops.py
to the repository's isort 5.12.0 canonical form. Formatting-only,
AST-equivalent, no other surface changed. Full pre-commit suite on the
263-file PR set passes; independent analyst exact-delta audit signoff.

…#20893)

Merges fresh upstream main 1586d85 (incl. Qwen Image Ulysses PR NVIDIA#17147
and FlashInfer KDA perf) into the published K3 consolidation head 105d0c7,
resolving exactly the two test-list YAML conflicts as duplicate-free
coverage unions. PR K3/kimi_k3/modeling_v2 coverage preserved; latest-main
Qwen Ulysses and KDA coverage adopted; stock shared files byte-identical
to published head / fresh main. OCI CPU pass-after (job 8200918, cpu-0004,
aarch64) INNER_EXIT 0, receipts at maintenance/cpu-receipts/fold-main-17/.

Add full-GSM8K gates for both SM100 TP16 MoE layouts and register them for 16-GB200-GPU multinode QA. Preserve both independent test-list additions when merging main. The source-bound CPU claims suite passes all 59 tests; full 16-GPU accuracy execution remains a QA step.

The host-only fixtures bypass worker and drafter constructors. Initialize the vocabulary-parallel and FC projection defaults read by inherited fallback paths so the tests exercise their assertions against the current runtime.

Keep K3 kernels, operator names, stock-library linkage and fake registration unchanged while merging the per-family native-library infrastructure. Exclude only K3 from the new discovery and contract boundary, retain conservative baseline CI selection for its stock-linked code, and cover coexistence with source-bound checks. The native-family migration is deferred to a follow-up.

Merge/CI-override rationale for ab299760d86be377e0b50175e1cab68a6722ba57:

  • CI #66839 on the preceding head 235b89ba5e passed both builds, both single-GPU jobs, and ARM multi-GPU validation. The 140 affected CPU tests passed on both x86 and ARM; x86 records 22 FIXED and 118 PASSED.
  • That pipeline ended FAILURE, not fully green: x86 multi-GPU had four transfer-lifecycle MPI-startup timeouts (cancel_late_aux, cancel_late_kv, timeout_late_aux, source_fatal) plus their enclosing wrapper. The CI agent analysis considers these unrelated to K3. Main chore: Fix logits dtype in assert #3038 reproduces the same shared "four native MPI ranks" startup timeout; related baseline cases are tracked under NVBug 7004364. The failing test/transfer paths are unchanged by this PR. These four variants remain unwaived; no waiver or workaround was added here.
  • Main's [None][feat] modeling_v2: build target C++/CUDA as per-family libraries #20896 conflicts are resolved while retaining K3's existing stock-library linkage, operator names and fake registration. The K3 model/kernel/operator implementation tree is unchanged from the CI-tested 235b89ba5e. Only K3 is excluded from new family-library discovery/ownership rules; other families retain the new mechanism. K3 CI selection falls back conservatively to baseline. Migrating K3 to the new library design is deferred to a follow-up, per maintainer direction.
  • Local source-bound validation of the compatibility merge: 79 passed, 1 skipped, covering actual CMake discovery/coexistence, contracts/import boundaries, loader helpers, packaging and CBTS selection. The skipped installed-family loading check requires new family libraries absent from the baseline validation runtime. Pre-commit and DCO checks passed.
  • Validation limits: the merged head has not completed fresh full CI/native-build validation. The agreed 16-GB200 numerical accuracy QA is registered but has not been executed. CI skip/force merge is a maintainer-requested override based on the preceding CI evidence and targeted compatibility validation, not a claim that this exact head completed full CI.

/bot skip --comment "Maintainer-requested override; see #20893 (comment). Prior CI failures are existing disaggregated MPI startup timeouts, with no K3 regression identified. Compatibility merge preserves K3 implementation; 79 local checks passed. Fresh merged-head full CI remains unverified."
