fix: wrap a crowded position onto more rows while editing the bar in place - #429
While editing the bar in place, a position with more widgets than fit ran past the screen edge, so the last widgets couldn't be reached or moved. It shows most on the right of a notched MacBook, which only gets the space beside the notch. The tray's view reported its widgets' one-row width to Auto Layout, and that outranked the width SwiftUI gave it, so the tray grew past the screen and its scroll view never scrolled.
Wrap instead of scroll. A tray lays its widgets out with BarEditFlow, a layout that continues on a new row when the next widget doesn't fit. Widgets keep the bar's order, left to right then top to bottom. Positions that fit stay on one row.
Taller bar while editing. Each tray reports its height, trays stay centered on the bar's line, and the bar grows to the bottom of the lowest tray. The Undo/Done panel already follows the bar's geometry. The bar goes back to its usual height on Done.
Drops across rows.WidgetPlacement.dropTarget takes the pointer's y: the row nearest the pointer decides, and dropping past the end of a row lands before the next row's first widget. Rows come from every tile in the tray, the dragged widget's preview too, so a row that only the preview fills keeps it at the end. The tray's + shapes rows too, because it can take a row of its own, but it's never an anchor. Both came from CodeRabbit's reviews (second and third commits). The Settings bar preview still passes only x.
Tray sizing.BarEditDropTargetView has no intrinsic size, and its hosting view uses sizingOptions: [], so a tray takes exactly the size the layout gives it.
Removed. The tray scroll view, BarEditScrollWheel, BarEditOverflow and the fades and arrows.
Scene.scenes/crowded-edit-bar.json draws a crowded edit bar on the existing scene display, so the screens bot shows the before and after. SceneRenderer now waits for the edit bar's height to hold for a few passes, because a wrapped tray reports its extra rows one layout later.
Guide.docs/settings.md describes wrapping instead of scrolling.
Not covered. A group wider than its whole tray can't be split across rows, so it's still cut off at the tray's edge, as it ran off the screen before; that's A widget group wider than its tray is cut off while editing the bar in place #430. A tray that needs more rows than the screen is tall isn't handled either, since it would take about 25 rows.
Testing
New testACrowdedSectionWrapsOntoMoreRowsSoEveryWidgetStaysOnTheNotchedBar draws 4 left and 18 right widgets on a 1512 pt notched display. On main it failed with every right widget outside its 549 pt tray, up to x = 3132. It passes now: every widget is inside its tray and on the screen, the left stays on one row, the right wraps in order, and the bar fits the tallest tray.
New tests for the row rule (BarEditFlow.rows), the layout's wrapped size, and drop targets across rows, including a row that only the dragged widget's preview fills and a row that only + fills. A view test checks that the tray hands its + to drop targeting.
The tests that covered scrolling now check widths and wrapping instead.
swift test --filter "BarEdit|Scene|WidgetPlacement|BarPreview" passes. In the full run, Swift Testing passed (619 tests). Two XCTest tests failed: PackagesViewTests.testCommandPackageReviewLoadsInAnUnorderedWindow and WidgetAddPopoverTests.testCommandReviewLoadsInsidePopoverIncludingRequirementsAndSettings. They fail the same way on a clean main on this Mac (macOS 27.2), so they're unrelated.
--render-scenes from a bundled debug build: the new scene below, and starter-edit-bar is pixel-identical to main in light and dark.
Not checked: dragging between rows in a running bar. Drop targeting is covered by unit tests only.

…place
A position with more widgets than fit ran past the screen edge, as on the right
of a notched display. Its drop target reported the widgets' one-row width to
Auto Layout, which outranked the width SwiftUI gave it, so the tray grew past
the screen and its scroll view had nothing to scroll.
Trays now take the width the layout gives them and lay their widgets out in
rows, and the bar grows to the lowest tray while editing. Drops follow the row
under the pointer. The sideways scroll, its fades and arrows are gone, and a
new scene draws a crowded edit bar.
Fixes#428
The edit bar replaces horizontal scrolling with wrapped tray rows. It measures tray heights and adjusts its editing height. Drop targeting uses both pointer coordinates to select an insertion point in the nearest row.
BarEditFlow wraps items to additional rows within a finite proposed width. Tray views report measured heights, and BarEditView positions the trays and reports the lowest tray bottom. Horizontal scrolling and overflow indicators are removed. Tests cover wrapping, tray bounds, and bar height. The settings text and new scene configuration describe or show a crowded edit bar.
Row-aware drop targeting Sources/StableBar/WidgetPlacement.swift, Sources/StableBar/BarEditing.swift, Sources/StableBar/BarEditDrag.swift, Tests/StableBarTests/BarEditingTests.swift
Drop-target calculation now accepts an optional y-coordinate. When supplied, it selects the nearest row before determining the insertion point. Tests cover pointer positions within and beyond wrapped rows.
Height measurement now waits for three consecutive passes with an unchanged height and all expected widget frames present. The image-test helper resizes its window when the measured height changes and waits for three qualifying passes.

The change wraps crowded trays instead of scrolling, which fixes the common crowded-bar case. A group wider than its tray is still clipped with no way to reach its later members. An extremely crowded bar could also grow taller than the display. Resolve or explicitly accept the oversized-group case before merging.

The description follows the template with Problem, Changes, Testing, and Merging sections, and it links the issue (Fixes #428). It explains the root cause, lists each change, and gives concrete test results and before/after images. It also names the model and harness on the last line, as the template requires. Minor gap: the Problem section is a paragraph rather than the one or two sentences the template suggests, and the Testing section lists two failing XCTest tests that the author attributes to main. Those are informational, not missing required content.

Explanation
Issue #428 requires every widget in an overcrowded edit position to stay on screen and draggable while editing, including on a notched display. The reviewed head meets each coding part.
On-screen placement: BarEditFlow (Sources/StableBar/BarEditFlow.swift) wraps widgets to a new row when the next widget exceeds the proposed finite width. BarEditDropTargetView has no intrinsic size. BarEditDropTarget uses sizingOptions: [], so the tray takes the size the layout assigns. The scroll view and its intrinsic-width path are removed. testACrowdedSectionWrapsOntoMoreRowsSoEveryWidgetStaysOnTheNotchedBar checks that each right-side widget lies inside its tray and on screen on a 1512 pt notched display.
Bar height: BarEditView reports each tray height. The editing bar grows to the lowest tray. The bar returns to its usual height on Done.
Dragging across rows [#428]: WidgetPlacement.dropTarget (Sources/StableBar/WidgetPlacement.swift) takes an optional y. The current code builds row bands from all frames, including the dragged preview and the add slot. It selects the band nearest the pointer. Units on a lower row insert before their first widget. Units on the same row use the x midpoint. The dragged widget is excluded as an anchor. Unit tests cover cross-row targeting and the preview-only row case.
Remaining uncertainty: the author states that dragging between rows in a running bar was not checked. Drop targeting is verified by unit tests only. This does not leave a coding requirement unmet in the code reviewed.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Each changed area supports wrapping, row-aware dropping, or verification of those behaviors.
Removed components (BarEditScrollWheel, BarEditOverflow, fades, arrows, BarEditLayout.scrolling) are replaced by wrapping, as #428 requires.
BarEditing.swift, BarEditView.swift, BarEditDrag.swift, and WidgetPlacement.swift implement tray sizing, bar height, and row-aware drop targeting.
WidgetDragView.swift adds a sizingOptions parameter. It supports the no-intrinsic-size tray.
SceneRenderer.swift waits for the edit-bar height to settle. A wrapped tray reports extra rows one layout pass later, so this supports the new crowded-bar scene and its verification.
scenes/crowded-edit-bar.json and the test helper changes supply the crowded-bar scene used for verification.
docs/settings.md replaces the scrolling instruction with the wrapping behavior.
The add slot's role as a row shaper, not an anchor, is part of the row-aware drop targeting. It is not a separate feature.
No change was found that is unrelated to #428. The two XCTest failures named in the PR are reported as pre-existing on main. This review did not rerun them, so their status is taken from the PR description.

…ew row
Drop targets built a wrapped tray's rows from the other widgets only. When the
dragged widget's preview filled a new last row by itself, a pointer on that row
picked the row above and moved the preview there. Rows now come from every
tile in the tray, the preview included, and the dragged widget is still never
an anchor.

Include the add slot in row geometry.
On a narrow right tray, the add slot can occupy the first row by itself while the first widget starts on the next row. Because only widget tiles publish frames, dropTarget can map a pointer in the add-slot row to the first widget's row and append after it.
Publish the add slot's frame through BarEditFrames for row construction. Keep it out of widget units and insertion anchors. Keep the dragged widget excluded only as an insertion anchor.

A tray's + can take a row of its own: the last row of a left tray, or the first
of a narrow right one. Only widget tiles shaped the rows, so a drop on the +
row picked the next row and could land beside its widgets instead of at the
end or the start. The tray now hands the frame of its + to drop targeting,
which uses it for rows but never as an anchor.

Preserve access to oversized groups.
BarEditFlow puts an oversized unit on one row without reducing its width. This clip then hides the part outside the tray, with no scroll fallback. The 1,500-point group in BarEditViewTests demonstrates this case: its later member can be outside the tray and cannot be edited there. Provide a way to reach every member of an oversized unit. Keep very tall trays reachable.
When wrapping produces more rows than fit on the display, BarEditView reports the full tray height. BarEditing.geometry(for:) preserves that height, and updatePanels() applies it directly to the panel without a display-height clamp. The panel can extend below the display, leaving lower widgets unreachable. Bound the editing surface to the available display height and provide scrolling or another navigation method for rows beyond that bound.
