Select items on the canvas with a box or a click - #399
Windows release build, real mouse and keyboard: a box selects two agents and a smoke; Shift+click adds the text and the stroke; a click on empty map clears; Ctrl+A selects the page; Delete removes it all; one Ctrl+Z brings it back; Space+drag moves the map.
A player on Discord asked to copy replay-captured pages into the playbooks they already have, and later single items such as one lineup. Instead of a page-only feature, Icarus gets whiteboard selection: select things, then move, delete or copy them. This PR is the first of three, and only selection lands here. Group move is #400 and copy/paste is #401. The three merge together: merging deploys the web beta, and a drag that selects instead of panning shouldn't ship before you can do anything with the selection.
What changes for the user
Drag on an empty part of the map draws a box that selects what it covers. Space+drag or middle-drag moves the map, which used to be a plain drag (your call: "force this new behavior"). Touch, trackpad and the wheel move and zoom as before, and the box is mouse-only.
What a box picks: things that mark a spot (agents, abilities, utilities, view cones, custom shapes, a lineup's two ends) count when their middle is inside the box. Text, images and drawings count only when the box covers all of them. A view cone lays out in a 600-unit box, so "touches" would grab half the map, and "fully inside" would make cones almost impossible to select.
Clicking:
A click selects one item, and Shift+click adds or removes one.
A click on empty map clears the selection.
A lineup is selected only with the box, because clicking a lineup opens it.
Keys:
Ctrl+A selects the page. It's in Settings → Keybinds as "Select All".
Escape clears the selection.
Delete, Backspace and E delete the selection as one undo step. E still deletes the hovered item when nothing is selected.
Selected things get a violet outline (DESIGN.md: violet means selection). It sits inside a teammate's presence outline, so both show. Captures and video exports never show it.
The first time a drag draws a box, a toast says "Dragging on the map now selects. Hold Space and drag to move the map." It shows while the drag is still under the user's hand.
Selection is local to this window. It's never saved or synced. It clears when the page, the strategy or the tool changes, and items that leave the page (undo, a teammate's delete) leave the selection.
How
CanvasSelectionLayer (lib/widgets/canvas_selection_layer.dart) wraps the canvas inside the InteractiveViewer. A mouse-only box recognizer sits there; with Space held, the canvas content ignores the pointer, so the viewer pans. Turning panEnabled on and off wasn't enough: it breaks trackpad panning.
Measuring items: every item already marks what it draws with EditorItemOutline (used for presence). Those outlines now register with a CanvasItemRegistry under the canvas, so the box measures items where they are drawn: either side of the map, any agent size, any rotation. Drawings use their stored bounding box, flipped on defense.
Keyboard: the canvas takes the keyboard when pressed (Focus with onKeyEvent), so its keys never fire from a dialog, a menu or the library. A text item still takes the keyboard to be written in. Flutter hands every key to HardwareKeyboard handlers and to the focus system, so a handler can't swallow a key; focus can.
Data:AppPreferences.canvasSelectionHintSeen is Hive field 23 and defaults to false. No library data changes and no migration is needed. Preferences written before this read as "not seen", so updating users get the hint once.
Ground truth
Windows release build, real mouse and keyboard:
box, Shift+click add and remove, click to clear, Ctrl+A, Escape;
Delete, then one Ctrl+Z restoring everything;
Space+drag and middle-drag;
a box while zoomed in;
a box on the defense side;
a plain drag of an unselected agent still drags just that agent;
after clicking a tool button on and off, Space+drag pans and doesn't press the button again;
the hint toast.
Bugs found on the real build:
After a click on the map the keyboard went nowhere, so Ctrl+Z and the selection keys died. The canvas now takes the keyboard on a press.
A click could become an empty box.
A box drawn up or to the left slid its anchor.
Tests:test/canvas_selection_test.dart and test/canvas_selection_layer_test.dart drive the layer with real mouse gestures and keys. The full suite ran 2,898 tests with one failure, page_screenshots_test, which is known to be flaky and passed on its own.
Review: Astra reviewed this commit with the next PR. Its findings are fixed there.
Not covered
Web and macOS weren't run by hand. The code has no platform branches, and Cmd replaces Ctrl through the existing IcarusKeyBinding.primary.
No touch-screen hardware was tried.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Select, add to, or toggle selections of canvas items with clicks and drag-box gestures.
Select all items with Ctrl+A or the configured shortcut; use Delete or Backspace to remove selected items.
See outlines around selected items. Hold Space while dragging to pan without selecting.
Undo restores items removed in a single selection deletion.
Bug Fixes
Selection clears when switching pages or interaction modes, and updates when items leave the page.
Adds mouse and keyboard selection for supported canvas items, selection outlines, and bulk deletion. Selection is enabled on editable pages in navigation mode when no page transition is active. The change also adds a stored preference for the selection hint.

Adds typed selection state and operations for supported canvas items. Selected items can be deleted in one transaction, including batched drawing deletion. Adds the select-all shortcut and persists whether the selection hint has been seen.
Selectable entity registration and outlines lib/widgets/editor_operation_scope.dart, lib/widgets/draggable_widgets/placed_widget_builder.dart, test/editor_operation_scope_test.dart, test/widgets/editor_entity_outline_test.dart
Canvas selection interactions and wiring lib/widgets/canvas_selection_layer.dart, lib/interactive_map.dart, lib/widgets/global_shortcuts.dart, test/canvas_selection_layer_test.dart
Adds click and box selection, keyboard controls, Space-to-pan behavior, and selection painting. The map enables selection only under the stated editing and navigation conditions. Contextual deletion acts on a nonempty selection first.
Add a touch-drag regression test for the mouse-only selection box.
CanvasSelectionLayer accepts box gestures only from PointerDeviceKind.mouse, but every drag in this fixture uses the mouse. Add a genuine touch drag, check that no box is drawn during the drag, and check that canvasSelectionProvider remains empty afterward. This is a test-coverage improvement, not a current production defect.

Dragging on an empty part of the map now draws a box that selects what it

The canvas takes the keyboard when pressed, so these keys and undo keep
working after a click on the map; they stand aside in a text field.
