v3.2.1 is a mutable tag. If its owner retargets the tag, later CI runs can execute different action code without a workflow change. Pin this reference to the release’s full commit SHA, fa1f3e7de95534497266c7265950b5188355fbfb, and retain v3.2.1 in a comment. GitHub documents that tags can move. (docs.github.com)

Review downstream ABI users and preserve metadata ownership.
otlp_metadata changes the size of struct cmt_metric. Since struct cmt_map embeds it, the offsets of all later fields also change. Review consumers that use older cmetrics headers before accepting this public layout change.
The processor also drops metadata during static-metric conversion. It zeroes map->metric without transferring or destroying otlp_metadata, and its custom metric destructor frees metrics without destroying that field.

Check the cmt_cat() return value at the ignored call sites.
cmt_cat() can return -1 after it has already merged some families. append_context() returns at the first failing family and does not undo earlier merges, so the destination can keep a partial merge.
The OTLP decoder handles this case. It destroys merged_context and returns an error, so the partial state does not escape. Two call sites ignore the result:
plugins/in_node_exporter_metrics/ne_textfile_linux.c:163merges into the long-livedctx->cmt. A failed merge can leave partial families there for later use. Check the return value and report the failure. Destroyingctx->cmtis not an option, so the failure path needs an explicit decision.

Check the return value and handle the failure. The exact handling depends on the ownership and lifecycle ofout_cmt.

Convert OTLP histogram bucket counts to cumulative counts before storing them.
cmt_histogram_set_default() stores each input value directly in hist_buckets, and cmetrics stores histogram buckets cumulatively. The Fluent Bit OpenTelemetry decoder passes OTLP bucketCounts directly to this function. For input [5, 1, 3], the stored values remain [5, 1, 3], but the changed encoder emits [5, 0, 2].
Accumulate the decoded OTLP counts before calling cmt_histogram_set_default(). Reject cumulative overflow, as the cmetrics OTLP decoder does. Keep the Prometheus path unchanged because its bucket values are already cumulative.

Update the Fluent Bit OpenTelemetry decoder path that calls
cmt_histogram_set_default() to accumulate decoded OTLP bucketCounts into
cumulative counts before storing them, rejecting cumulative overflow. Keep the
Prometheus path unchanged because its bucket values are already cumulative.
