Implemented #1014 in baff792: all 10 setFailed calls under .github now start with the cross-mark emoji (six listed in the plan plus four found by the sweep: approve-pr, assign-pr-to-creator, enable-automerge, and the second check-no-merge-commits call). Removed .deleteme.now. No CHANGELOG entry, because this template repo's pre-commit requires CHANGELOG.md to stay blank. CI will run next.
