Summary

  • Combo signature/thinking-signature recovery rebuilds now debit the request-wide shared send budget: genericRefetchCountsSends treats options.comboAttempt like the existing counted paths, so a combo target's additional recovery send spends the same shared allowance as its initial send instead of going uncounted.
  • In the synthetic four-target failover regression fixture, an uncounted recovery send raised observed physical sends to 8; the fixture now asserts the shared-budget ceiling of 7 (comboExecutionBudgetPolicy(4).maxTotalModelSends). That 8-to-7 figure is the fixture result only, not a general deployment measurement.
  • The refetch reporter for Combo attempts settles at physical executor admission after pacing, the same deferred boundary billing pools already use; a pacing refusal releases the booking and leaves the unsent repair uncharged. API-key accounts keep preparing key metadata before the guarded transport commits.
  • Combo OAuth credential hops (antigravity auth, terminal refresh, refusal and 429 rotation, verification) are now debited through the same counted-send check instead of being counted only when a transient or reset policy was configured.
  • structure/transports notes updated: generic Combo rebuilds share the physical-send allowance with initial sends and later targets even without an opt-in retry or spend policy.
  • Follow-up: the Anthropic credential-rotation path inside a combo now books the final auth-recovery send before rotating an account. The gate requests the hop reservation from the shared send budget and rotates only when it is allowed (a refused rotation still records the refused account); the reserved permit is handed to the send reporter; and the reservation is refunded when no alternate account exists, when the rebuild fails, or when rotation throws, with the original error propagating. The first commit's base-only remaining check stopped rotation before reaching the existing final auth-recovery allowance, so that head produced only 3 physical sends where the fixture expects 4; this follow-up preserves all 4 counted sends.

Verification

  • Pinned Bun 1.4.3, bun test ./tests/responses/responses-anthropic-thinking-signature-recovery.test.ts --timeout 30000 — 47 pass / 0 fail / 417 assertions (41.25s), including 10 new cases: counted recovery sends across buffered and streamed failures, prepaid fast-repair settling exactly once, pacing-refusal release with and without prepayment, exact prepaid settlement on an OAuth credential hop, and spend/transient/reset accounting preservation. Fixture-based; no live endpoints were exercised.
  • Final focused run on this head's content: bun test tests/adapters/anthropic/anthropic-combo-account-cooldown.test.ts — 8 pass / 0 fail / 49 assertions, now pinning the exact synthetic rejection and exactly one refund per failed rotation alongside budget.used equality, reservation denial with base headroom, and refund on the rotation-failure paths. tsc --noEmit — PASS on the same frozen bytes.
  • Scoped suite run (before the final release/rethrow lines were added): 117 pass / 744 assertions across the touched areas, with structure-ssot and privacy-scan PASS — historical scoped evidence, not a run over the byte-identical final tree; the four final lines are covered by the owning file's new error-path cases.
  • Published-head CI: the first commit's Cross-platform CI failed exactly one assertion — expected 4 sends, observed 3 — in this rotation path, with the other three shards and the gates passing. On the follow-up head 89eb145, Cross-platform CI run 39183302846 completed SUCCESS (all four Ubuntu test shards, gates and the ci aggregate): https://github.com/lidge-jun/opencodex/actions/runs/39183302846; the replacement Enforce PR target branch run 39183380737 also completed SUCCESS. Conditional Windows/macOS shards and other skipped jobs were not executed — skipped is not executed. A later test-only commit 1c8003a changes only the cooldown test file (production bytes are identical to 89eb145); hosted CI on that head has since completed: Cross-platform CI run 39185257867 SUCCESS (all four Ubuntu test shards and the ci aggregate) https://github.com/lidge-jun/opencodex/actions/runs/39185257867, and the synchronize-triggered Enforce PR target branch run 39185256159 completed SUCCESS.
  • Node 24.18.0, tsc --noEmit — PASS. structure-ssot and privacy-scan — PASS. git diff --check — clean.
  • Scope note: the full suite, test:changed and GUI checks were not run locally under the focused/shared-resource scope, and the file-size ratchet could not run in this sparse validation checkout. The ratchet's own countLines reads the changed routing file at 1999 lines (under the 2000-line cap) and none of the touched files is baseline-tracked, but that changed-file check is partial evidence only — integration with fix(anthropic): preserve cache prefixes across running turns and image compaction #7308 must keep the file under the cap. No live-proxy behavior is claimed.
  • Integration note: open draft fix(anthropic): preserve cache prefixes across running turns and image compaction #7308 overlaps this change on the same genericRefetchCountsSends line in adapter-dispatch.ts (it adds imageContextBudget). Whichever lands second must integrate so that both the imageContextBudget and comboAttempt conditions are preserved.

📝 Walkthrough

Combo recovery sends now share physical-send accounting across retries and target changes. Recovery dispatch records routed-attempt metadata based on account type. Failover paths use the shared send-counting policy and reserve credential hops for Anthropic OAuth rotation.

Intake/scoped review at 1c8003a35a453de053115c09c4fde3e279b80975.

Generic Combo rebuilds now participate in the shared physical-send accounting, and Anthropic rotation reserves a refundable hop before replay. The critical cases are a pacing refusal with no charge, a denied shared ceiling with no rotation, one settlement per actual send and a pre-send rebuild failure that refunds. Current functional CI is successful; credential-rotation and spend-owner review remains separate from the test report.

Existing current-head CI was inspected; its success is limited to the jobs actually selected, with skipped platforms retaining no runtime certification. No local suite was run for this branch in this intake. No workflow approval, new scan, live configuration change or merge was performed. Required review/readiness gates remain in force.

Thank you @luvs01! All three commits are absorbed as-is into #7355 with your authorship intact. Your regressions failed on current dev (9 failures, including 8 sends against a ceiling of 7) and pass with the change. The maintainer will close this PR when #7355 lands.

) (#7355)

* fix(combo): retry zero-output response.incomplete with no reason

A combo target that ends with `response.incomplete` before any output and
without `incomplete_details.reason` was accepted as the turn's answer, so
the caller got an empty incomplete turn instead of failover to the next
target. Treat a missing reason like the transport reasons already listed;
semantic reasons such as max_output_tokens still commit the target.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(combos): hold the turn lease across the failover ladder

Each combo child relay binds the turn admission lease to its own controller
and unbinds it when its stream ends; the lease releases once nothing is
bound. When target 1 returned 200 SSE and then failed before output, the
combo cancelled that relay, its unbind released the parent's lease, and
target 2 was aborted on bind with "turn already settled" (502).

handleComboResponses now binds its own controller for the whole ladder and
unbinds it on return. The accepted child's stream is bound before that, so
it keeps the lease until it ends.

* fix(responses): count Combo recovery sends in the shared send budget

* fix(responses): preserve reserved Anthropic pool recovery sends

* test(adapters): assert exact combo cooldown rejection and single refund

* fix(combo): log the upstream refusal reason on combo target failure

The combo hop warning printed only `<target> failed with 401 after Nms`,
so a revoked credential or plan downgrade logged hundreds of identical
lines that read like a provider outage. Append the upstream error code and
parsed message (falling back to the normalized body text), collapsed to one
line, redacted and capped at 200 characters via sanitizeLogMetadataString.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(combo): log only the parsed upstream code and message on a hop failure

Drop the classificationText fallback so an unparsed upstream body never
reaches the warning line; the log boundary is now the two parsed fields.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(combo): redact failure fields before flattening log metadata

Preserve credential framing until the shared redactor has removed credential values. Cover multipart framing in a parsed upstream code at the actual combo hop warning boundary.

Co-authored-by: Vadym O <bolein95@gmail.com>

* fix(combo): retain output carried by reasonless incomplete snapshots

A terminal-only upstream can include text or tool items in its final snapshot. Keep that response committed, and cover explicit semantic/unknown reasons and output-first streams as well.

Co-authored-by: Vadym O <bolein95@gmail.com>

* fix(combo): unbind only registered turn lease controllers

Match registerTurn capability checks for plain admission leases so the ladder does not report a spurious release miss. Add accepted fallback stream completion, cancellation and caller-abort coverage with exactly-once attached lease settlement.

Co-authored-by: Vadym O <bolein95@gmail.com>

* docs(combo): describe incomplete, lease and recovery-budget boundaries

* docs(structure): split combo streaming boundaries within the line budget
