feat(committor): add v2 delegation reads and settlement builders - #1860
Discover legacy delegation records and v2 DelegationState accounts, validate Direct cluster authority, and expose commit sequences to the existing provider.
Preserve the ScheduleCommit* API while selecting legacy or v2 commit and undelegation instructions per account.
Support v2 inline and buffered commits, ordered/recoverable buffer uploads and cleanup, account growth, and mixed legacy/v2 settlement.
Propagate instruction-encoding errors through transaction preparation.
This covers Direct clusters. Challenge-based settlement and owner-requested v2 undelegation remain out of scope.
RPC overhead and the 200,000 CU buffer-write budget still need measurement.
DLP and RedSuite
The validator follows DLP's dlp-v2 branch, with Cargo.lock recording the resolved revision (acb0f20d1f6fd40d8e8f1529523530f80a3d44eb) for reproducible builds. Validator CI checks out RedSuite's dlp-v2 branch. RedSuite PR #315 merged the v2 commit-sequence accessor fix; rerun RedSuite CI to test the latest branch head. The workflow checks that both repositories use the same DLP branch and resolved revision, then builds and loads the matching SBF program. The matching program must be deployed before validator release.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The PR adds legacy and V2 delegation-info reads, version-aware Committor task and buffer instructions, and Chainlink discovery of V2 delegation state. It also updates RedSuite actions to build and use a pinned delegation-program fixture.
Changes: V2 delegation execution
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Delegation info and task construction Cargo.toml, committor/Cargo.toml, committor/src/shared/account_state.rs, committor/src/execution/task_builder.rs, committor/src/test_utils.rs, committor/src/execution/intent.rs, committor/src/execution/error.rs, committor/src/execution/intent/tests.rs
Committor reads and validates legacy or V2 delegation information. Task construction uses the returned version, rent payer, and requester.
Commit, undelegation, and buffer tasks select legacy or V2 instructions based on delegation version. Instruction builders return errors for encoding failures.
Instruction and account collection failures propagate through planning and transaction preparation. Lookup-table key collection retains or uses fallback keys when it fails.
V2 StateBuffer upload and cleanup committor/src/execution/cleanup.rs, committor/src/execution/preparation/delivery_preparator.rs
V2 uploads validate existing StateBuffers and resume matching partial payloads. Buffer cleanup creates close instructions in batches and deduplicates tasks by buffer PDA.
Chainlink fetches both delegation layouts, validates V2 state and cluster accounts, and recognizes V2 state during subscription resolution and internal-account checks.
RedSuite DLP fixtures
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Build and run DLP fixtures .github/actions/build-redsuite/action.yml, .github/actions/run-redsuite/action.yml
The build action validates the DLP revision, includes it in the fixture cache key, and builds the program on a cache miss. The run action sets the DLP artifact path and checks out RedSuite at a pinned commit.
Most V2 delegation reads and settlement paths work, but a retried upload that hits a mismatched V2 buffer ends the intent instead of recovering, and owner-requested V2 undelegations cannot complete yet. Both affect narrow flows, and the second is already acknowledged as out of scope. Address or explicitly accept them before release.

# Delegation program
Delegation module for https://arxiv.org/pdf/2311.02650.pdf
## Public Api
* `Instruction Builders` – utilities to generate Instructions.
* `Args` – Instructions arguments structures.
* `Consts` – Program constants.
* `Errors` – Custom program errors.
## Program
* `Entrypoint` – The program entrypoint.
* `Processors` – Instruction implementations.
## Important Instructions
* `Delegate` - Delegate an account
* `CommitState` – Commit a new state
* `Finalize` – Finalize a new state
* `Undelegate` – Undelegate an account
## Tests
To run the test suite, use the Solana toolchain:
cargo test-sbf --features unit_test_config
For line coverage, use llvm-cov:
cargo llvm-cov --test test_commit_state
(llvm-cov currently does not work with instructions with CPIs e.g.: delegate, undelegate)
## Integration Tests
The integration tests are located in the `tests/integration` directory. The tests consist of a Bolt/Anchor program that uses the delegation program to delegate, commit, and undelegate accounts. This can be also used a reference for how to interact with the program.
To run the integration test, use Bolt or Anchor:
cd tests/integration && bolt test
or:
cd tests/integration && anchor test
## Upgrading the Program
Upgrades go through a Squads multisig whose vault holds the upgrade authority. CI only proposes them.
1. Run Actions → Propose Program Upgrade with the target `cluster` (start with `dry_run`). It builds `dlp` verifiably, uploads a buffer and opens a Squads proposal that upgrades the program and records its verified build. The job summary shows the proposal number and the executable hash.
2. Members review and approve:
* mainnet: in the Squads app;
* devnet: with the shared command-line tools, run locally with your own keypair:
node approve.mjs --multisig <MULTISIG> --keypair <your keypair> <proposal #> --hash <executable hash>
3. Once approved, any member with Execute executes it.

Recover a mismatched V2 buffer before ending the intent.
A failed base-account fetch can rebuild a retried DiffInBuffer task as full-state data. The V2 prefix check then returns InvalidStateBuffer. This error is non-transient, so the executor ends the current intent instead of retrying it.
The pinned V2 CloseStateBuffer instruction supports idempotent cleanup of abandoned partial uploads. Enter the existing cleanup-and-retry path for InvalidStateBuffer.

Update the error-handling match around `return Err(invalid())` to route
`InternalError::InvalidStateBuffer` through the existing cleanup-and-retry path,
preserving the current behavior for other errors.

Major · Functional Correctness · Heavy lift
Do not send owner-requested V2 undelegations through this instruction.
When DelegationInfo.undelegation_requester is OwnerProgram, TaskBuilder::follow_up_tasks sets include_undelegation_request. This V2 branch ignores that flag. The pinned DLP commit processor preserves the OwnerProgram requester, and its V2 undelegation processor rejects that requester. Consequently, an owner-requested V2 commit-and-undelegate intent cannot complete. Add a supported V2 owner-request path, or reject this intent before settlement until DLP supports it. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
As per path instructions, prioritize “API contract correctness” in Rust workspace code.

Do not enable the v2 RedSuite scenarios before Chainlink resolves v2 delegations.
The pin at .github/actions/run-redsuite/action.yml:37 selects a RedSuite revision whose default redshift run includes three v2 scenarios. The PR states that these scenarios use normal v2 discovery and activation. Chainlink resolves delegated accounts only through the legacy delegation-record PDA, so those scenarios can fail to activate their accounts. The correctness job runs for this PR because the change touches .github/actions/run-redsuite/**, and it can fail on these scenarios.
Keep the v2 scenarios out of the correctness job until Chainlink implements v2 discovery and activation. Alternatively, land that Chainlink work before this pin merges.

Read legacy record/metadata PDAs and v2 DelegationState in matching RPC
batches. Validate account ownership, discriminators, delegation sessions,
and Direct cluster identities, and reject ambiguous protocol layouts.
Expose the resulting commit IDs through the existing provider.
Carry the delegation protocol into commit and undelegation tasks so each
account uses the matching DLP builder. Preserve the ScheduleCommit APIs
and propagate instruction encoding failures through transaction planning
and preparation instead of panicking.
Keep v2 payloads inline while DLP has no StateBuffer close instruction.
Reject v2 buffer preparation and mark the enablement and cleanup sites
with CHECKPOINT links to delegation-program#270.
This is the initial committor portion of #1858. Account discovery and
cluster authority handling, protocol-aware intent limits and recovery,
buffer preparation and cleanup, and v2 qualification remain unfinished.
Update the DLP interface to 3fb00596169d5963fbada0bf90e099e731fbacb4
from delegation-program#271, which adds CloseStateBuffer and records the
buffer rent payer. Preserve unrelated dependency selections in Cargo.lock.
Enable v2 buffered delivery and use WriteStateBuffer for full account data
and encoded diffs. Validate existing buffer identity, payer, length, and
payload before resuming an upload. Reuse finalized buffers and confirm
each chunk before sending the next, while retaining parallel legacy
writes. Reject payloads beyond DLP's buffer limit before uploading.
Close v2 buffers through DLP and refund the committor that funded them.
Deduplicate cleanup by buffer PDA so legacy and v2 buffers with the same
account and commit ID remain distinct. Preserve buffers while settlement
is uncertain, and propagate close-instruction encoding errors.
Remove the StateBuffer CHECKPOINT blockers. Extend the existing wire-size
tests for both protocols and mixed cleanup batches, and add coverage for
ordered uploads, partial-upload recovery, completed-buffer reuse, payload
mismatches, and cleanup retries.
V2 writes use a 200,000 CU budget pending on-chain measurement. Matching
DLP deployment and RedSuite qualification are still required; the other
account-discovery and settlement integration work in #1858 remains open.
Use DelegationInfo for the committor view of legacy and v2 delegation data, avoiding a name collision with the on-chain DLP DelegationMetadata type.
Rename DelegationProtocol to DelegationVersion and its protocol fields to version. Update provider methods, task builders, error names, local variables, and existing test fixtures to use the same terminology.
Preserve the DLP DelegationMetadata type and metadata PDA helpers. Settlement behavior and instruction encoding are unchanged.
Pin RedSuite to the top of its three-PR v2 coverage stack: lifecycle,
buffered settlement and cleanup, and mixed legacy/v2 intents.
Read the DLP revision from the validator dependency and require RedSuite
to use the same interface revision. Build that program with the SBF
fixtures, include its revision in the artifact cache key, and load the
result through REDSUITE_DLP_SO instead of the cloned mainnet program.
This enables real v2 qualification on Linux CI. The scenarios deliberately
require normal v2 discovery and activation; they do not seed legacy PDAs
to bypass the remaining Chainlink integration gap.

Remove the duplicated V2/legacy parser dispatch.
This parsed block repeats the one in pipeline.rs (lines 232-249). Both check owner() == dpi::id() and the DelegationState::DISCRIMINATOR prefix. Both then call parse_v2_delegation_record or the legacy parser, and map the V2 result to (record, None).
If the two copies diverge, subscription updates and fetch resolution will classify the same companion account differently. Extract one helper, for example FetchCloner::parse_companion_delegation(pubkey, companion_pubkey, &AccountBuilder, AccountFetchContext). Call it from both places.

Extract the duplicated V2-versus-legacy dispatch from the parsed block and the
corresponding block in pipeline.rs into one shared helper, then call it from
both paths. Preserve the owner and discriminator checks, V2 parsing context and
`(record, None)` result, and legacy parsing behavior so both paths classify
companion accounts consistently.

Run V2 cluster fetches concurrently and extract the shared parser dispatch.
parse_v2_delegation_record makes a slot-bounded RPC snapshot with retries to fetch the cluster. Here it runs inside the sequential for loop. A batch of N V2 accounts therefore pays N serial round trips, and a retry stalls the whole batch. Accounts that share a cluster fetch the same cluster account repeatedly.
Fetch the clusters before the loop, or run the parses with a JoinSet. You can also cache by (cluster_pubkey, slot).
This dispatch block also duplicates resolve_subscription_snapshot in mod.rs (lines 2110-2127). See the comment there about a shared helper.

Extract the V1/V2 delegation-record parser dispatch into a shared helper and
reuse it from this fetch flow and resolve_subscription_snapshot. In the batch
path, avoid awaiting each V2 cluster fetch serially: fetch cluster snapshots
concurrently or deduplicate/cache them by cluster and slot, while preserving
slot-bounded snapshot and retry behavior.

Release parked collision candidates for V2 delegations.
is_internal_dlp_account_data now treats DelegationState data as internal. For Program-sourced updates, check_or_park runs on these updates. It parks the state account under delegation_record_pda_from_delegated_account(state_pda), a key that no delegated account uses. These entries can fill the parked-collision LRU.
A V2-delegated account whose app data matches an internal discriminator is parked under its delegation record PDA. Only a legacy record calls sight_record, and a V2 delegation has no legacy record. The parked candidate is therefore never released.
Sight the V2 state under the key derived from its delegated account, delegation_record_pda_from_delegated_account(<delegated account>). Also keep the state account out of check_or_park under its own key. Confirm that the state update does not then reach a cloning path before making that change.

Update is_internal_dlp_account_data and its Program-sourced update handling so a
V2 DelegationState is not parked by check_or_park under its own account key, and
instead releases the parked candidate using the key derived from the state’s
delegated account. Before excluding the state from check_or_park, verify the
update cannot reach a cloning path; preserve that path’s safeguards while
ensuring the V2 candidate is released.

Correct the stale CommitTasksBuildError display text.
CommitTasksBuildError now wraps failures from fetch_delegation_info (Line 76). The comment at Lines 49-50 states that commit IDs are reserved in the scheduled intent and are not fetched. The display text "CommitIdFetchError: {0}" therefore names an operation that no longer exists. Operators who read the logs can misdiagnose a delegation-info failure as a commit-ID failure. Use the variant name, which is consistent with FollowUpTasksBuildError.
As per path instructions, flag "Documentation inconsistencies between code, comments, examples, and public behavior."

Update the error display attribute for CommitTasksBuildError to use the variant
name instead of the obsolete commit-ID fetch label, matching the naming
convention used by FollowUpTasksBuildError.
