fix(rpc): return an empty list from getBlocks past the tip - #1879
getBlocks returns an invalid params error when the start slot is ahead of the latest block. A client that polls with getBlocks(last_seen + 1) hits this every time it is caught up. Agave clamps the end slot and returns [] here, and our own getBlocksWithLimit already does the same for a start past the tip.
getBlocks(latest + 1)
before: {"code":-32602,"message":"start slot is greater than the end slot"}
after: {"result":[]}
The end slot is already clamped to the latest block, so start..=end is simply empty in that case and the explicit error can go. An explicit end below the start now also gives [], which again matches Agave.
block_rpc_methods in aperture/tests/blocks.rs now checks get_blocks(latest + 1, None) returns an empty list.
The block request handler now passes a range to slot retrieval when the start exceeds the computed end. The block test checks that a request starting one slot after the latest slot returns an empty list.
Changes: Empty block range handling
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Return empty results for out-of-range starts aperture/src/requests/http/get_blocks.rs, aperture/tests/blocks.rs
The handler no longer returns an invalid-parameters error when the start exceeds the capped end. The test checks that requesting blocks from latest + 1 with no end slot returns an empty list.
Out-of-range block requests return an empty list. No merge-blocking risk was identified.
