Train 36: Kotlin scope functions (#438) + framework hooks not dead (#437), @llvm-x86; G1 coverage (#431), @liziye627-design - #441
Showcase generator: the capture replaces the repo root and scratch dir only as whole paths (a checkout at /w had turned src/wrap… into src.rap…) and refuses a scratch dir inside the repo.
Community-only train (merge order; each item credited):
Train commits: 70400c4 (showcase scrub replaces the repo root / scratch dir only as whole paths; refuses a scratch dir inside the repo; showcasecapturecheck arm (S)), 185ba69 (versions), 79e6918 (langidentity ceiling 335 → 333), bd2aaa0 (showcase capture + COMMANDS.md), 6a98316 (credit lines). All authored joyful-ii-V-I noreply; no private paths in added lines or messages.
changelog.d: 155-kotlin-scope-functions.md and 228-django-unittest-hooks.md bodies kept byte-for-byte; their headings gained (#438, thanks @llvm-x86) / (#437, thanks @llvm-x86) (changelog.d/README credit form; fix(navigate): filter built-in member calls on JS/TS literal receivers in --uses #411 lesson: credit line before the go). versions.md rewritten once (below).
Synced with train 35 after its CodeRabbit harvest (merge 0712a51, 0 conflicts; showcase regenerated once, COMMANDS_showcase_2026-10-26.md).
Versions: kParserVer 231 (rich tag 232), kCacheVersion 43, kQSnapCacheScheme 24, strictly above every live value; qschemetrip re-derived once; langidentity ceiling lowered 335 → 333 (measured).
Checks at the head (plain dev builds): T1 rechecks pass (kotlincheck §15 incl. 15l/15m, falseedgecheck J, qualitycheck, deadprecisioncheck, type3clonecheck + gateexitcheck, cachefuzzcheck, pyimportprecisecheck); the full-suite-only gates pass; ASan clean on 5 gates; quality-delta gating 0; our 163-question replay changes 0 answers. workflow_dispatch CI 40310608760 on fb19c62: all jobs green except two known macOS runner timeouts (cppqualcheck --uses 30 s alarm; forrootlegendcheck's MCP twin 30 s subprocess timeout).
Kotlin calls to let, run, with, apply, and also with trailing lambdas no longer incorrectly resolve to same-named Java methods. Calls without trailing lambdas and parenthesized lambdas retain their existing behavior.
Python dead-code analysis now recognizes unittest, Django, and pytest test hooks, and accounts for receiver calls captured in closures when identifying possible overrides.
Python test methods such as setUpTestData and runTest are no longer reported as dead code.
#228)
Framework hooks (setUp, tearDown, setUpClass, tearDownClass, setUpTestData,
setUpModule, tearDownModule, load_tests) and test* methods in test modules are
live. Closures that call self. or cls. keep the overrides of their class live.
kQSnapCacheScheme moves from 22 to 23. The tripwire pin follows.

…od (#155)
A Kotlin call to run, let, apply, also or with that has a trailing lambda is
the stdlib scope function. FE-A now drops the non-Kotlin candidates for it.
An emptied set lands as external= with proof. One new u8 on the call record
carries the trailing-lambda fact. kParserVer 228 and kCacheVersion 41 are
placeholders above every live value. The qschemetrip re-pin is the next commit.

…review)
The #228 arm passed with either new guard removed. Add three expected-dead rows:
a test* function and a testThing method in application code (the test-module
clause), and a hook reached only through a closure that binds self as its own
parameter (the bound-receiver clause). The arm now fails with either guard
mutated and on the base.

… calls (#155 review B1)
The scope-function arm skipped every receiver rule for let/run/with/apply/also with a
trailing lambda, so t.run { } on a t: Task split over every Kotlin run via="name".
Rule 2 and FE-B receiver evidence run again; a pick holding a non-Kotlin method is undone
and FE-A decides the call. kotlincheck 15l (typed and constructed receivers) and 15m
(no via="name" on tree C's go row) are red at 4438f15 and green here. Floors reworded:
a Java-typed receiver is not checked; qualified kotlin.run { } can bind an in-tree run.

review B2)
kKotlinScopeFunctionNames is asserted sorted by the shared isStrictlySortedTable, and
kotlinTrailingLambda reads call_suffix then annotated_lambda with firstChildOfKind
instead of a nested forEachChild. Behaviour is unchanged. The one remaining one-line
idiom clone (inSortedTable ~ isMarkdownGrammarExtension) is acked: no shared helper
fits two different tables across docparse.h and externalnames.h.

review B3)
Both were generated from a checkout rooted at /w, and the generator's path scrub replaced
every /w with '.', corrupting about 36 spans in the capture and 25 in COMMANDS.md. They are
restored to the base state here and regenerated on the merged tree at landing.

… hook table per framework (#437 review)
setup_method, teardown_method, setup_module, teardown_module, setup_function,
teardown_function, setup_class and teardown_class read as dead in a test module.
pythonFrameworkInvokedSymbol now reads the same kXunitHooks / kUnittestHooks tables
as pythonRunnerRoot (hoisted to namespace scope, plus kUnittestModuleHooks) instead
of a second hand-written list. --dead-code and --safe-delete also skip
setUpTestData and runTest in a TestCase subclass. The xunit names stay dead in
application code. pytest conftest hooks are named in the changelog as a floor.
Split the self/cls closure dispatch fact out of frameworkEntryHooks into its own
LangFacts column, closureReceiverDispatch (no behavior change). qschemetrip
re-pinned once; kQSnapCacheScheme stays at the PR's 23 placeholder.

…#437 review)
The shared kUnittestHooks table now covers both for --dead-code and --safe-delete.
Red on the PR head (both listed as dead), green with the shared table.

…e self-dispatch (maintainer head 80dbb88)
Conflicts vs #438: src/langfacts.h field block (both facts kept), test/qschemetripcheck.sh RE-PIN LOG
(both entries kept), test/qschemetrip.hash and changelog.d/versions.md (re-derived in the train's versions commit).

…s; refuse a scratch dir inside the repo
A checkout at /w made the capture's plain str.replace turn src/wrap into src.rap and
.github/workflows into .github.orkflows (#438 review: ~61 spans). exportscrub.scrub_root
replaces a root only where no path character precedes or follows it; the scratch dir is
scrubbed first, and showcase_capture refuses a scratch dir inside the checkout (it would
publish as ./build/... instead of <scratch>). showcasecapturecheck arm (S): byte-exact over
a ROOT=/w text, a plain-replace mutant must differ, and the inside-repo refusal (red before
this commit: 2 FAIL).

Renumbers #438's placeholders (228 / 41) and #437's (scheme 23) strictly above every live value:

229 (rich 230) / 42. quality.h mirrors follow (their 40 = train 34 / 226 = 2026-10-24 history lines
restored), the pyimportprecisecheck cache walker reads 43, changelog.d/versions.md states it once.

…ain-36 composed binary
One regen for #431 + #438 + #437 with the whole-path scrub (#438's /w-corrupted capture was
dropped in 24d8554). 265 commands, clean tree; dictv unchanged (8c941c6c17d27549 / 932).

Arm (S) called scrub_root directly; reverting showcase_capture.py to str.replace( REPO ) left it green. Red on that mutant, green at HEAD.

…rged train-36 binary
One regen after merging train 35's harvested head (6580f35) into train 36; the
2026-10-25 capture is restored to train 35's bytes (the day's capture), so the new
day's file is the only new one. 265 commands, clean tree. Gate counts unchanged (714).

Walkthrough
The changes update Kotlin call resolution for trailing-lambda scope functions, expand Python dead-code analysis for framework hooks and closure receiver dispatch, change showcase path normalization, and improve Type-3 test reporting.
Changes: Kotlin scope-function resolution
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Capture and store trailing-lambda facts src/model.h, src/ingest_metrics.h, src/ingest_sidecap.h, src/ingest_model.h, src/ingest_cache.h, src/langfacts.h, test/cachefuzzcheck.sh, test/pyimportprecisecheck.sh
Ingest detects Kotlin trailing lambdas and carries the fact through references and cache records. Cache and parser versions and cache walkers are updated.
A sorted name table and Kotlin-specific rule filter candidates for recognized trailing-lambda calls. The rule runs before receiver filtering and undoes receiver selections of non-Kotlin candidates.
Tests cover Java candidate filtering, retained control cases, external-call reporting, Java caller invariance, and deterministic output. Changelog and architecture text describe the behavior and limitations.
Shared hook tables and path checks determine which Python functions count as framework entry points. Dead-code and runner-root handling use those definitions; fixtures cover additional unittest hooks.
Track receiver calls through closures src/langfacts.h, src/quality.h, test/qualitycheck.sh, changelog.d/versions.md
Python scope and receiver records now include enclosing-method hosts and bound receiver names. Dispatch analysis uses them to identify eligible closure calls, and integration tests check hooks, overrides, and control cases.
The build helper adds root-boundary scrubbing and a resolved-path check for whether scratch is outside the repository.
Apply and test path normalization test/showcase_capture.py, test/showcasecapturecheck.sh
The capture script checks scratch placement before creating its auxiliary directory and uses the scrubbing helper for both paths. Tests cover boundary cases and helper usage.
Type-3 test reporting
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Guard PASS-line writes test/type3clonecheck.sh
The success helper records a gate failure if it cannot write a PASS line. Existing assertions use the updated helper.
Invalid cache data can produce an incorrect Kotlin call result, and the changelog can mislead users about fixture reporting. Both are bounded issues to address or explicitly accept before merging.

Explanation
The showcase path-scrubbing and scratch-directory checks are stated PR objectives. The Kotlin, Python quality, type3clonecheck, cache/version, changelog, documentation, and regression-test changes support #155/#228/#431 and their implementation or validation. No demonstrated unrelated change remains.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
The implementation and tests cover #155/#438: trailing-lambda Kotlin scope functions filter non-Kotlin candidates, preserve Kotlin candidates, and report external sites. The implementation and tests cover #228/#437: framework hooks and relevant closure receiver dispatch remain live. The implementation covers #431: type3clonecheck.sh uses ok with a write guard and return 0, and G1 coverage is reported. However, #228 also requires deterministic zero-gating for an identical tree. The supplied changes describe hook handling and related cache updates, but they provide no deterministic snapshot comparison fix or identical-tree regression test.
Resolution
Implement deterministic --quality-delta behavior for identical trees and add an automated regression test that verifies zero gating for an unchanged tree.

…bit 4377078634, PR #441)
readRef (and the other 16 bool reads) took `u8() != 0`, so a doctored trailingLambda byte of 2 read as true and dropped the Java
candidates of a Kotlin call with no trailing lambda. ByteR::flagU8 folds any value past 1 into the same refusal as an enum byte
past its count: that file reparses and the rest of the blob stands. The writer stores exactly 0 or 1, so no cache is invalidated
and kCacheVersion stays 43. cachefuzzcheck Part 3 gains flag arms (ref.forwarded, ref.trailingLambda, bind.isFromAssignment,
ffi.lowConf, include.isAngle): red on the previous binary (value 2 and 255 accepted), green here.

… is reported (CodeRabbit 4377078640, PR #441)
The comment above pythonFrameworkInvokedSymbol listed @pytest.fixture functions as "still reported", against the #228 changelog
fragment and the binary: a decorated def is handed to its decorator as a value (ingest_valuerefs.h emitDecorators), so
--quality-delta never reports one and --dead-code counts it as decorated-excluded. The fragment stays as written; the comment now
says why. qualitycheck pins both halves: a conftest hook (pytest_configure) is still reported, the @pytest.fixture beside it is not.

CodeRabbit harvest for this PR (reviewed fb19c62): 2 inline comments, no nitpick or outside-diff items, plus 1 warning in the walkthrough's pre-merge checks. Two commits are pushed on top of fb19c62.
c477a88 fixes the src/ingest_cache.h comment. A cache flag byte other than 0 or 1 now refuses the record, so a doctored trailingLambda byte of 2 can no longer be read as true. All 17 bool reads in the cache reader share one ByteR::flagU8; cachefuzzcheck gains flag arms (red before, green after; ASan green). The writer only ever stores 0 or 1, so existing caches stay valid and kCacheVersion is not renumbered. The byte comes from @llvm-x86's fix(kotlin): a trailing-lambda scope function never binds a Java method (#155) #438 work.
Checks at 00f4aa8 (plain dev build): cachefuzzcheck, qualitycheck, pyimportprecisecheck, deadprecisioncheck pass; cachefuzzcheck passes under ASan; the full-suite-only gates pass (results in the harvest report); --quality-delta gating 0; 35 argv across 9 repos, cold and warm cache, byte-identical to fb19c62.
