Keep lidge-jun#7266's project/location endpoint for API keys, but only when the provider configures project explicitly. Ambient GOOGLE_CLOUD_PROJECT, GCLOUD_PROJECT and GOOGLE_CLOUD_LOCATION stay ADC fallbacks, so a gcloud default in the shell cannot move an express-mode key onto another project. Endpoint selection now lives in src/adapters/google-vertex-endpoint.ts and also derives the thought-signature replay namespace. Every Vertex branch rejects a model id that is not a single path segment before credentials are attached.
Prefix the Vertex replay key with the endpoint kind and encode the project, so a configured project named "api-key" can no longer share express mode's thought-signature namespace.

Trim provider.project once so a whitespace-only value keeps API keys on express mode and lets ADC use its environment fallback, and update the project/location rows in the seven translated provider references.

Combines lidge-jun#7266 and lidge-jun#7280 on one request: a configured-project API key uses the project endpoint with location global, a projectless key stays on express, and in both the matched image nests in functionResponse.parts while the duplicate image moves to the marked orphan turn. Ambient project/location variables are set to conflicting values and restored.
) * fix(google): nest Vertex Argon tool-result images * fix(google): separate orphan images from Vertex Argon response batches * docs(google): clarify orphan result ordering guarantee * test(google): cover Argon signature replay with matched and duplicate tool images Seeds a real replay signature, then checks on one continuation that the matched image nests in functionResponse.parts, the duplicate image moves to the following marked user turn, and neither image's bytes leak into text parts. * test(google): cover streaming continuations and error results for Argon tool images The continuation request now runs with stream on and off, and isError results keep matched-image nesting and orphan-image placement. Both cases fail on the pre-#7280 serializer. * test(google): cover API-key project endpoints with Argon tool images Combines #7266 and #7280 on one request: a configured-project API key uses the project endpoint with location global, a projectless key stays on express, and in both the matched image nests in functionResponse.parts while the duplicate image moves to the marked orphan turn. Summary
Vertex API keys ignored a configured project and location and always used the projectless express endpoint, so Gemini 4 Argon returned 404 from
us-central1even withlocation: "global"(#7265). With this PR, an API key uses/v1/projects/{project}/locations/{location}/...when the provider setsproject, defaulting the location toglobal; withoutprojectit keeps express mode. ADC behavior is unchanged.Closes #7265
Implementation and compatibility
global, validate the location before forming the authority, encode the project segment. Keys stay inx-goog-api-key; ADC stays Bearer with per-request service-account markers.GOOGLE_CLOUD_PROJECT,GCLOUD_PROJECTandGOOGLE_CLOUD_LOCATIONremain ADC fallbacks, so an unrelated gcloud default in the shell no longer moves an existing express-mode key onto another project (the first revision read them for API keys too).src/adapters/google-vertex-endpoint.ts; the same selection derives the thought-signature replay namespace (vertex:express:<model>/vertex:project:<encoded project>:<location>:<model>), so express and project endpoints never share signatures and ambient environment changes no longer move an express key's replay space./,?,#,\\,%,.., empty) before any credential is attached. Dotted and@-versioned ids are unchanged.provider.projectis treated as unset (CodeRabbit), so it never selects a/projects/%20/endpoint.reference/configuration/providers.mdin English and all seven translations),structure/providers/google.mdand theproject/locationtype comments state the auth-specific precedence./models+ Bearer builder (src/oauth/index.ts), so a connection-test result does not certify this inference path.Security review
Credential transport (API key and ADC Bearer) reviewed by an independent reviewer and the maintainer lane:
aiplatform.googleapis.comor<validated location>-aiplatform.googleapis.com); the location validator rejects authority-altering input before any header is set, and upstream redirects are manual.x-goog-api-keyorAuthorizationis attached; no new path routes a credential to another authority, and ambient environment can no longer redirect an explicitly configured API key to a different project.Verification
