To ensure seamless display of caller names (CallerID) across a wide variety of IP, digital, and analog phones, the module supports four different encoding and transliteration modes.
You can select the appropriate mode directly in the module settings via an exclusive dropdown menu.
-
Standard (UTF-8 / DE) (
none)- Description: Passes characters through unmodified using standard UTF-8 encoding.
- Recommendation: Perfect for modern IP phones, SIP applications, and environments that natively handle Unicode and special characters (such as German umlauts Ä, Ö, Ü) without conversion.
-
Transliterate Special Characters (
ascii)-
Description: Automatically converts umlauts and special characters into standard ASCII equivalents (e.g.,
ö->oe,ä->ae,ü->ue). - Recommendation: Ideal for older IP phones or SIP endpoints that show display issues or question marks with UTF-8 special characters.

Force Swiss ISO-646-CH (
iso646ch)- Description: Enforces the historical Swiss ISO-646-CH character set mapping.
- Recommendation: Specifically designed for legacy Swiss telecommunications infrastructure, older PBX systems, and analog/digital end devices that strictly require this specific standard.
-
ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) (
iso88591)- Description: Uses the classic Western European encoding (ISO-8859-1).
- Recommendation: Recommended for older digital system phones, certain legacy hardphone models, and classic PBX interfaces.
If you are using modern IP phones, Standard (UTF-8 / DE) is the best choice. If weird characters or truncated names appear on certain devices, simply switch to Transliterate Special Characters (ascii) or the corresponding legacy mode.
