feat(agents): launch remote sessions from ordinary mentions - #108
An unchanged phone client can publish an agent mention but cannot issue the custom remote-launch request. Add an opt-in server listener that consumes the existing signed kind 9/40002 messages and starts or reuses the agent's thread Sandbox through the current confined provider.
The listener authenticates as a registered agent, verifies the owner and original message, and rechecks current channel access before deployment. The owner's current kind 30177 listing must still select the Remote workspace runtime; deleting or retyping it revokes pending starts without injecting replies from the former runtime. Existing desktop registrations supply credentials; the phone sends none. Durable Kubernetes inboxes retain pending work, retry attempts, completion receipts, and undelivered failure replies. Ended sessions require explicit recovery or a new thread. The feature is disabled by default.
Validation:
362 affected provider/manager tests passed, including 11 mention regressions.
The opt-in test passed against a real local Buzz relay with PostgreSQL, Redis, and S3: a private-channel message starts a Sandbox request, a reply reuses it, another root starts a second request, and changing the owner listing to a local runtime prevents further starts. Kubernetes remains an in-memory API in this test.
Affected Clippy, formatting, file-size and diff checks passed on this revision.
Repository-wide just ci passed workspace Rust Clippy and desktop frontend checks, then stopped at Tauri because this local environment lacks the system glib-2.0 development package. Hosted platform checks remain pending.
Image CI now checks the packaged serve --mention-launch option on both architectures.
No mobile files changed. No cluster deployment or physical-phone test has run. Companion Terraform permissions and CD settings must precede enablement. The author authorized the staging rollout only after PR approval and passing checks, with physical-phone acceptance afterward. Do not add the human-test completion marker before that acceptance.
See docs/server-mention-launch.md for limits, rollout, rollback, and exact phone acceptance steps.
Companions: Terraform #1014 adds namespace Secret discovery; CD #667 wires the feature flag. The CD flag remains disabled until this manager image is published and pinned. Self-review found no remaining blockers in the changed paths; runtime claims remain limited to the tests above.
Release dependency: this PR now targets Buzz #105, which fixes the existing dependency advisories. The local workspace security audit passes after the rebase; hosted CI is rerunning. Merge #105 first. The dependent sharing PRs #101 and #110 follow this PR in stack #111. Require approval and passing checks for the current heads before merging.

New Features
Added an optional, disabled-by-default way to start registered remote agents from signed channel messages, without requiring changes to the chat client.
Added durable handling for incoming mentions, including retries, duplicate protection, and replies with launch results.
Documentation
Added setup, rollout, rollback, testing, and troubleshooting guidance for mention-based launches.
Clarified how server mention launches relate to the existing mobile launch option.

Adds an optional, default-disabled server service that processes signed relay mentions for registered agents. It stores pending work and replies in Kubernetes Secrets, revalidates launch eligibility, and can start agents through the manager.

Makes registration data available within the crate, discovers and validates registered identities, and adds manager support for admitting mention-based starts.
Persistent inbox and lease state crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/mentions/journal.rs, crates/buzz-backend-kubernetes/src/sandbox_fake.rs, crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/mentions/tests.rs
Adds a Secret-backed journal for pending events, receipts, leases, checkpoints, and notices. The fake Kubernetes backend supports update failures and filtered Secret listing; tests cover storage failures and lease fencing.
Mention history, launch, and reply processing crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/mentions/worker.rs, crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/mentions/tests/*
Adds live and historical event processing, launch revalidation, durable retries, and reply delivery. Tests cover eligibility, history limits, duplicate events, and delivery failures.
Service lifecycle and feature wiring crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/mentions.rs, crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/main.rs, crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/serve.rs, crates/buzz-sandbox-reaper/src/mentions/tests/live_relay.rs, .github/workflows/voltage-agent-images.yml
Adds listener reconciliation and an opt-in serving option. A local-relay integration test exercises the service, and workflow smoke tests check for --mention-launch.
Launch and operations documentation docs/server-mention-launch.md, docs/mobile-remote-agent-launch.md, voltage/remote-agents.md
Documents launch eligibility, persistence, rollout, testing, and troubleshooting. Existing remote-agent documentation now describes the server-mention path.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review c97cd
This change adds an opt-in server listener that starts agents from ordinary mentions. The remaining concern is documentation only: the remote-agents guide can lead a reader to apply the modified-client control-request flow to an unchanged phone. Label that flow or move it into a separate section. This is low risk and should not hold up the merge.

CI repair: rebased this PR onto #105, the existing dependency-security fix, and carried that base through #101 and #110. This PR now targets fix/markdown-advisory-gate; the feature diff remains separate from the security patch. Merge #105 first, then follow stack #111.
The local workspace cargo-deny --exclude buzz-mesh-smoke check now passes. The rebased provider and manager suites passed 357 tests; formatting and diff checks pass. Hosted CI is rerunning. The security failure was real and has been addressed, rather than waived as flaky.
Also clarified that the existing kind-24210 diagrams describe the Voltage desktop control path, addressing CodeRabbit's documentation comment. The unchanged iPhone app uses the linked server-mention path. Brandon is requested for review; staging enablement remains subject to approval and passing checks.
Integrating this feature with current main (71b6e5f), which now includes the merged DM binding API. I will preserve the unchanged feature diff as one signed commit and push with an explicit old-head lease (5e9f5cc). The separate local mention-launch workspace is clean and will remain untouched. The shared wake consumer #114 also fixes two real-relay issues: explicit channel scopes are required for live channel delivery, and an acknowledgement of our requested history close must not terminate the live listener.
